Now Wi-Fi hotspots are becoming most popular. Laptops and PDAs have in-built Wi-Fi facility, so they can use these hotspots to access the internet. But Wi-Fi facility is not available in mobile phones. Now some of Nokia mobiles are having inbuilt Wi-Fi facility, but cost of these mobile phones are higher. But Bluetooth facility is now available even in lower end models. So we are developing Bluetooth hotspot where we can access internet in mobiles which are having Bluetooth facility. This is very useful for the common people to access internet easily.
By using this technology, we can access internet in the mobile phones which are not having GPRS connection or not even a SIM. Two parts of this project are given below.
- A client application – in a hotspot environment, client application will connect to the server application. It provides internet access to the mobile and the mobile phone will host client application.
- A server application – which runs in the computer with a Bluetooth dongle. This PC works as gateway to the internet for the mobile.
In this project, we are using a smart phone which has Bluetooth facility and supports windows application. This mobile incorporates a device discoverer which searches all the nearby Bluetooth enabled devices and lists them out of which we can select any device to which we want to transmit the key depression data. At the client side, we will generate the text message to be sent by using a newly defined protocol and application program will converts generated text message in to corresponding ASCII codes. Then ASCII codes are sent to the Bluetooth of the mobile, which converts those codes into the Bluetooth frequency signal.
At the server side, computer system will receive the ASCII code by using a device called Bluetooth dongle. A firmware (embedded software) in this dongle accepts the Bluetooth signal sent to the system and Universal Serial Bus (USB) which is accepted by the firmware of the dongle will convert this signal in to the USB data format. Bluetooth dongle is inserted to a USB port of the computer system. In this system, we will develop application software which uses data from USB port as input. We implemented a Parser in this application software, which is used to parse the incoming data and find the corresponding command function of the ASCII code received. This parser will work according to the defined protocol. When performing a specific operation this application software will execute the corresponding command.
